2005 Research Highlights

Even a quick examination of some of the highlights of the year below indicates that the School of Management faculty are indeed deeply involved in creating new knowledge and innovative ideas about management.

School of Management faculty published 38 articles in professional and scientific journals during the year and served on editorial review boards for more than 20 journals during 2005.

The school’s Center for Relationship Marketing organized a national conference in Buffalo, focused on research in retail marketing and supermarkets, that attracted researchers from across the United States. 


  • Professor Kee Chung, M&T Bank Chair in Banking and Finance, received the Provost’s Exceptional Scholar/Sustained Achievement Award after publishing nine journal articles last year.
  • Professor Ram Ramesh, who received the Provost’s Exceptional Scholar/Sustained Achievement Award last year, and Professor H. Rao served as co-editors-in-chief of the journal Information Systems Frontiers.
  • Professor Isaac Ehrlich, the Melvin H. Baker Professor of American Enterprise in the UB School of Management, was named a SUNY Distinguished Professor for having achieved national and international prominence and an established reputation in his field of expertise. He was also awarded a $750,000 faculty development grant from the New York State Office of Science, Technology and Academic Research (NYSTAR). He will use the grant to establish a Center of Excellence on Human Capital, Technology Transfer and Economic Growth and Development.
  • Professor H. Rao in the Department of Management Science and Systems in conjunction with the Center of Excellence in Information System Assurance Research and Education served as co-organizer of a research workshop at UB on Cyber Security with funding from the National Science Foundation and the United States Department of Defense and participation from scholars throughout the United States and staff from the US Department of Homeland Security.
  • Professor Fred Dansereau (with Fran Yammarino) published his eighth book on Research in Multi-level Issues, Professor Ron Huefner and Susan Hamlen published the ninth edition of their book on Advanced Financial Accounting and Professor Jerry Newman (with George Milkovitch) published the eighth edition of his book, Compensation.
  • Nallan Suresh served as guest editor for a special issue of the International Journal of Flexible Manufacturing Systems on virtual and nontraditional manufacturing cells.
