Murray recognized for excellence in teaching

BUFFALO, N.Y. —  David Murray, clinical professor of management science and systems in the University at Buffalo School of Management, has been honored with the Arjang A. Assad Excellence in Teaching Award.

Established with a personal endowment from Assad, former dean of the UB School of Management, the award recognizes the contributions of outstanding faculty members. Based on recommendations from the school’s teaching effectiveness committee, the award is presented biennially to a School of Management faculty member who has demonstrated teaching excellence, leadership and a passion for the profession.

“Dave’s steadfast commitment to student development and growth is evident through the glowing feedback he consistently receives from students and alumni who have taken his courses, as well as the numerous teaching effectiveness workshops and summer camps he leads,” says Paul Tesluk, dean of the School of Management. “I think I speak for our entire School of Management community when I say: Thank you, Dave, for all you do for our students and school.”

A School of Management faculty member since 1999, Murray teaches courses in management information systems and business at the undergraduate and master’s levels. He also serves as chair of the undergraduate programs committee, faculty director for undergraduate programs and director of the Sleiman Information Assurance Lab.

In addition, Murray has led workshops and presented at the local, state and national levels on cybersecurity topics. He regularly leads teaching effectiveness workshops for PhD students and helps present GenCyber, UB’s free five-day summer camp that teaches local middle and high school students the fundamentals of cybersecurity.

Murray previously has been honored with awards from the school for excellence in alumni engagement, faculty mentorship and teaching. He’s also brought in more than $1.2 million in grants for cybersecurity, computer forensics and information technology education.
