Please be advised that you may only retake a course one time
  2. Minimum overall and UB GPA of 2.0 to be considered in good academic standing with the university
  3. Junior standing

* The seven management prerequisite courses are:

  • PSY 101 Introductory Psychology
  • MTH 131 Mathematical Analysis for Management (Calculus)
  • MGQ 201 Introduction to Computers and Statistics
  • MGA 201 Introduction to Accounting I
  • MGA 202 Introduction to Accounting II

Do I need to apply?

The short answer is it depends. To learn if you need to apply select the link below that best describes you:

Admitted to UB as Freshman Business Major

Freshmen who declare business administration as a major when admitted to UB will be admitted provisionally to the School of Management Business Administration track and therefore do not need to apply to the major (however there is a separate application to the accounting track). In the first two years, students will complete the university writing requirements (ENG 101 and ENG 201), general education courses and the seven School of Management prerequisite courses.

All students go through a final academic review at the end of the second semester of the sophomore year. To remain in the School of Management and be permitted to take restricted upper-level (300/400-level) School of Management courses, the student must satisfy the requirements noted under the acceptance criteria above.

Students admitted to the Business Administration track may apply to the Accounting track in the second semester of the sophomore year or the semester in which all prerequisites will be completed. To apply to the Accounting Track, applicants must have completed MGA 201 and MGA 202 with minimum grades of B. This is in addition to the minimum GPA of 2.5 in prerequisites requirement. Option transfer applications to Accounting are available in 204 Alfiero Center.

Students who do not meet these requirements must select another major.

Current UB Student (who is now Intended Business Major)

Current UB students who are intended School of Management majors and students wishing to change majors into the School of Management will also need to satisfy the admission requirements above. An intended business student should apply during the semester in which he or she is enrolled in his/her final prerequisite course(s). The application deadlines are March 1 and June 15 for fall admission and October 1 for spring admission.

Transfer Student to UB

If transfer students decide to enroll at the University at Buffalo and declare business administration as an intended major, the university will forward transcripts to the School of Management for review.

Transfer students who have completed a minimum of 50 credit hours and the seven management prerequisite courses (or approved equivalents) with a minimum GPA of 2.5 are admitted to the upper division of the School of Management.

Transfer students who have any outstanding prerequisites will need to complete these courses and meet the admission requirements before he or she can enter the major. Once these transfer students have completed their first semester at UB, they are considered current UB students (and intended business majors) by the School of Management and should follow application deadlines as listed above.
