Jacobs Computer Lab

Located in 210 Jacobs Management Center.

The Jacobs Computer Lab is open to School of Management students and faculty. Only enrolled School of Management students can log on to lab computers. A consultant is always on duty during the hours of operation.

Lab computers run Microsoft Windows with basic software, like Microsoft Office, installed, along with special applications for School of Management students and faculty. Each computer automatically connects to your UBFS disk space at login.

Lab Hours

Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Saturday: 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sunday: Noon to 11 p.m.

Printing

Printing in the Jacobs lab is managed by iprint@ub software that helps reduce paper waste and provide convenience to students.

Scanning

There is a scanner available in the lab. The computer connected to the scanner has graphics-editing software available, as well as optical character recognition (OCR) software to interpret scanned text. All scanned files must sent using FTP to your UBFS account or saved to a portable storage device.

Computer Lab Rules

  • The lab is reserved for School of Management students and faculty only.
  • No food or drink are allowed in the lab, and students found with any food or drink will be asked to leave.
  • The consultants on duty are not allowed or expected to offer suggestions or advice on computer assignments, interpret directions or results, write formulas or debug programs.
  • When the lab is full, any workstation left unattended for more than 15 minutes will be cleared for waiting students.
  • To reduce paper waste, please keep unnecessary print jobs to a minimum.
  • Save all files on your portable storage device or to UBFS disk space. All files saved to computer desktop will be automatically deleted when you log out. 
  • The telephone in room 210A is for computer-related calls only. Personal calls are not allowed.
  • Be courteous to the next person who uses the workstation and clean up after yourself before you leave.

Closing Policy

  • Printers will be turned off 15 minutes prior to closing.
  • If you're still working in the lab at closing time, the consultant will give only one verbal warning after which you must leave.
  • Those who do not adhere to closing policy will be escorted out by Public Safety.

Technology Equipped Classrooms

  • Online help functions within the software is provided in most computer programs.
  • Consultants on duty can assist with lab computer problems. If you're having an issue with your lab computer, see the consultant in Jacobs 210A.

Jacobs lab consultants available to assist students and faculty with questions and issues related to the Jacobs and Alfiero technology equipped classrooms during normal hours of operation. If you are in one of the classrooms and need technical assistance, contact a Jacobs Computer Lab consultant at 716-645-3332 or stop by Jacobs 210A. 

If you're looking to use classrooms to practice class presentations or for a student club meeting, you must reserve it ahead of time. Lab consultants are not authorized to let you use a room if you have not reserved it. See the classroom reservation and usage policy.

Alfiero Center Group Rooms

The group rooms are available for School of Management students to assist with group work. You must reserve a room before asking Jacobs Lab consultant for access. Lab consultants are not authorized to let you use a room if you have not reserved it. See reservation and usage procedures.
