Media advisory: UB School of Management kicks off new academic year amid centennial celebrations

BUFFALO, N.Y. —  With a new twist on a longstanding tradition, the University at Buffalo School of Management will welcome a new class of students to campus for the 100th time, continuing the school’s commitment to developing leaders and making an impact on individuals, businesses and communities around the world.

Who:

  • Undergraduate students in the Class of 2027, along with new transfer students
  • Ananth Iyer, Dean of the UB School of Management
  • School of Management faculty and staff

The event is sponsored in part by the School of Management Alumni Association.

What: A picnic event to welcome the new academic year for the Class of 2027 and transfer students. The celebration will also launch a new Shareholder Society initiative — 15 groups of new students, supported by a team of student peers, faculty, staff and alumni — that will compete in a massive game of Rock, Paper, Scissors in the spirit of friendly competition to foster school spirit and a sense of belonging.

Why: The new academic year provides the opportunity for cultivating connections between students and faculty, staff, alumni and student peers.

When: 12:50 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 25 (detailed schedule below)

Where: University at Buffalo School of Management, Jacobs Management Center, Buffalo, NY 14260 (Weather permitting, the event will be held in Paula T. Agrusa Plaza and on the lawn outside Jacobs Management Center, otherwise it will be relocated to inside the school.)

Media/Photo Opportunities:

12:50-1:30 p.m. – New students arrive, icebreaker, Shareholder Society competition.

1:30-3:30 p.m. – Welcome picnic activities including: inflatable basketball toss, giant lawn games, DJ, an airbrush artist doing temporary UB-branded tattoos, selfie station, and a possible appearance from Victor E. Bull.
