Background

With the health care industry facing unprecedented challenges in quality, cost, efficiency and access, the School of Management is training future leaders with a robust and growing portfolio of programs and partnerships in health care management. Larry Zielinski brings 35 years of industry experience, including terms as president of two health care organizations, to his role steering this effort as executive in residence for health care administration.

His expertise covers the entire health care delivery system, including acute, ancillary and post-acute care in both adult and pediatric settings. He also has extensive experience working with physicians on collaborative strategies to build their practices, both in private and academic settings.

Prior to his career in health care, Zielinski was a successful banking executive at Goldome, an $11 billion regional institution serving New York and Florida. His banking and finance background are a unique complement in today’s challenging world of health care economics.

In his role as executive in residence for health care administration, Zielinski:

  • Collaborates with the Career Resource Center to strengthen and establish relationships with health care organizations to provide job, internship and experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Works closely with health care executives — many of whom are UB alumni — on the development of the health care management program.
  • Coordinates with UB’s Startup and Innovation Collaboratory powered by Blackstone LaunchPad on health care-related case competitions sponsored by regional companies.
  • Represents the school on several interdisciplinary projects at UB and in the community, including UB’s Center for Successful Aging and the African-American Health Disparities task force.
  • Organizes panel discussions to build the school’s reputation as a place for intelligent discussion on health care management issues.
  • Lends industry expertise to help develop electives for the MBA health care management concentration in health care analytics, economics, finance, law, policy and operations.
