Background

Charles Darku is an accomplished business leader with more than 37 years' experience in energy infrastructure development and management across the power and oil/gas sectors in Ghana, Africa.

From 2013-18, Darku served as managing director of Tullow Ghana Ltd. He was the first Ghanaian to lead an exploration and production company in Ghana’s nascent upstream oil and gas industry. Under his leadership, the company and its joint venture partners operated the Jubilee field assets. This was the first use of indigenous gas to power Ghana’s power sector and other industries, turning the vision of a future petrochemicals industry into a reality. He led Tullow Ghana to the No. 1 position of Ghana Club 100 companies.

Prior to that, Darku served as CEO of Ghana Grid Co. Ltd. and nurtured the new company into full-scale operation as the best-run utility in the country.

In his corporate leadership roles, Darku has achieved strategic goals in organizational startup and growth, new business development, structuring and setting up international joint ventures, negotiations with government agencies and general business development.

As executive in residence for global leadership, Darku:

  • Provides on-the-ground support and engagement for the school’s global leadership initiatives in Ghana
  • Shares perspectives on global programs and assists in implementing programs to train future leaders in global dexterity
  • Works collaboratively with the Center for Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness to identify organizations in Ghana and Africa to expand its network and provide high-end leadership training and development
  • Assists in providing opportunities for School of Management students to connect and engage with organizations and leaders in Ghana for projects and mentorship
  • Ensures that School of Management students, faculty and alumni participating in global experiences can obtain clearly identified opportunities for engagement, service and growth
