The Nonprofit Board Fellowship

Connecting students and community organizations for leadership development and hands-on impact.

The Nonprofit Board Fellowship (NBF) introduces MBA students to the intrinsic value of board service, through a foundational curriculum that lends the concepts of board governance, servant leadership, and diversity and inclusion, combined with an academic year of service as non-voting board members with local nonprofit organizations.

The fellows attend monthly board meetings and committee meetings, and are involved in projects that make a direct impact on their organizations.

NBF is a collaboration between the UB School of Management’s Center for Leadership and Organizational Effectiveness and the school’s Career Resource Center.

Co-directors: Molly Anderson and Carrie Gardner

Meet our Team

The Nonprofit Board Fellowship has allowed me to be mentored by leaders within our community who strive to improve the greater Buffalo Area. This fellowship has served as a phenomenal stepping stone professionally and has allowed me to learn how nonprofits operate and address challenges.

What I want to be when I grow up: satisfied

NBF has provided me with an opportunity that strongly complemented  my experience with my MBA program. The exposure to board governance in a nonprofit has honed my leadership and communication skills and exposed me to the intricacies of strategic management at a grassroots level.

What I want to be when I grow up: courageous

Through the Nonprofit Board Fellowship, I have developed a stronger confidence in my own abilities and ideas. With the support of the NBF team, the Neglia Board and staff, and our speakers, I have come to realize that we as young people CAN make a difference.
