Dutta's research is at the intersection of technology strategy and entrepreneurship, exploring a central conundrum for the technology entrepreneur—attracting stakeholders when there is information asymmetry about the quality of a venture. One research strand examines the influence of capital funding sourced from private equity investors, crowdfunding platforms, and the impact of federal grants on the innovation and venture development. A second strand considers the impact of investors’ decision-making behavior on their ability to catalyze innovation and create economic value, with a special interest on the variation in investors’ risk appetite over time and how investors alter their decisions influenced by social learning. A final interest area considers the dual facets of information asymmetry that creates rent generating opportunities but at the same time the anomalies of information asymmetry challenges the agent to capitalize the potential opportunities.
