The Joseph T.J. Stewart Global Citizenship Program Study-Abroad Scholarship

In an evolving global economy, there is no question that our best prepared students will bring an international perspective with them when they enter the job market.

With this in mind, the UB School of Management, in conjunction with the Joseph T.J. Stewart Endowment, is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships to support study-abroad experiences through a competitive application process.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • be currently enrolled, full-time, matriculated School of Management students who will have junior or senior standing within the school while studying abroad.
  • have already applied for a study-abroad program.
  • have applied to participate in a UB or SUNY study-abroad program (minimum of 6 credits for summer programs and 12 credits for fall or spring programs).

To be considered competitive for this scholarship award, applicants should have a minimum UB and overall GPA of at least a 3.5 or higher, as well as the following:

  • Juniors must have at least a 3.0 or higher prerequisite GPA and a 3.0 or higher management GPA (300/400-level MG courses) if any are completed.
  • Seniors must have at least a 3.0 or higher management GPA (300/400 level MG courses).

The study-abroad experience must fit into the applicant’s graduation plan without delaying degree conferral date.

Awards are based on academic merit and seriousness of purpose. Applications from students who have never studied or traveled abroad are given preference. Appicants with a demonstrated leadership background are given preference. Upon return, recipients will be encouraged to help the School of Management and Study Abroad Office in promoting future programs and opportunities.

Award Guidelines

The School of Management scholarship committee will review all applications and make all award decisions. Awards will be announced within 30 days of the application deadline. The award decisions of the committee are final and are not subject to appeal. Awards will be applied directly to the recipient’s UB student account. This is a one-time award.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. on May 8 for fall 2015 programs. Please bring your entire application and all supporting documents to the Undergraduate Programs Office in 204 Alfiero Center. To be considered complete, an application must include the following:

  • Completed Application Form [PDF]
  • A typed personal statement outlining the applicant’s travel plans and how the experience fits in with his/her career aspirations
  • A detailed outline of how study abroad fits into the applicant’s long-range graduation plan [PDF]
  • Two letters of recommendation (one from faculty)
  • A typed résumé
