Have you had problems logging into your UB Zoom account? A background change to the UB Zoom login process will reduce errors and make the process easier. Most people won’t need to change anything about the way they log into Zoom in order to benefit.

Previously, you had to click “Sign in with SSO” when logging into the Zoom desktop client with your UB account. This led to confusion, even causing some to accidentally create personal accounts with their UB credentials.

Effective July 15, 2021, UBIT is making a change that will automatically detect your UB Zoom account when you enter your UBmail address—no need to click an additional button or find the correct way to login.

What do I need to do?

For most people, this change will not affect the way they log into their UB Zoom account, only make it more reliable.

However, you will need to make a change if you are using your UBmail address with a personal (free or paid) Zoom account. Before this change is made, we’re asking anyone using their UBmail address with a personal Zoom account to choose one of two options: either change the email associated with their personal account, or convert their personal account to a UB Zoom account.

1. Change the email associated with your personal Zoom account to a non-UB email address

To change the email associated with your paid Zoom account to a non-UB email, follow these instructions from the Zoom website:

Alternately, you can do the following:

2. If you no longer need your personal Zoom account, deactivate it by switching to a UB Zoom account

If you no longer need your personal Zoom account, you can switch it to a UB Zoom account by following the instructions on the UBIT website.

If you need help at any time during this process, you can use this online form to request help with Zoom from the UBIT Help Center.

New features

Another feature of this upgrade (client version 5.7.0 or higher) is the ability to add pronouns to your Zoom profile. Pronoun information is seen as part of your contact card, and you can choose if you want this information shared as part of your display name in meetings and webinars.
