Virtual Ceremony

What is a virtual ceremony?

A virtual ceremony has many of the same components as a live ceremony. The virtual ceremony affords you, your friends and family the opportunity to attend from the comfort of your home. It will be posted at 5 p.m. on May 15, or you can watch it at a time or day convenient for you. You will hear from key speakers and be congratulated as a graduate of the University at Buffalo Class of 2020!

How do I know if I will be featured in the Virtual Commencement ceremony?

If you are eligible to graduate (those eligible for degree conferral in September 2019, February 2020, June 2020 or September 2020, noted in HUB by April 3) you will have a slide, regardless of whether you submitted a photo and personal message. Slides will contain your basic information (name and degree) and, when clicked, your name and Latin honors (if applicable) will be announced.

When will I see and hear my name?

You and your guests will be able to search by your name. Once your slide is displayed on the screen, you will be able to click on the slide to hear your name announced and view the information you submitted.

Other Questions

I already ordered cap and gown, do I still need it?

Questions about caps and gowns will be answered on the Cap and Gown section of UB’s Commencement website as details become available.

When will I receive my diploma?

The Office of the Registrar will mail your diploma to your PERMANENT ADDRESS approximately six to eight weeks after the conferral date. Note: Students are responsible for making address changes.
