“With the School of Management’s high standards, I know students who apply themselves can build global careers and am happy to give back by mentoring and sharing my perspective with them. ”

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Career Resource Center (CRC) is an exclusive resource in the University at Buffalo School of Management that prepares talented business students for success and connects top employers with future leaders.

To achieve its mission, the CRC collaborates with countless alumni and corporate partners — and at its annual awards reception on May 5, the CRC recognized several organizations and individuals who made a significant impact this year.

Honored as the CRC Alumnus of the Year, Sach Barot, MBA ’02, joined Dun & Bradstreet as an intern and rose to his current role as chief financial officer for global operations, partnerships and strategic planning. Barot established a relationship between his organization and the School of Management, helped coordinate visits with other Dun & Bradstreet executives, and continues to engage with the school.

“As an international student, I built a support system of friends and faculty at UB and still refer to Buffalo as my hometown in the U.S.,” Barot says. “With the School of Management’s high standards, I know students who apply themselves can build global careers and am happy to give back by mentoring and sharing my perspective with them.”

Xerox was named the CRC’s New Recruiting Organization of the Year. Over the past year, Xerox representatives met with faculty and students, hosted information sessions and spoke with students in the classroom.

“The School of Management has one of the few comprehensive internal audit programs in the country, as designated by the Institute of Internal Auditors,” says Kenneth Metz, chief audit executive, Xerox Corp. “We’ve been impressed with the quality of UB accounting students and their data analytics skills and hope this is the start of a strategic relationship in which we can provide opportunities to future graduates.”

The CRC also lauded Citi executives Kenneth Bennett, managing director, and Wayne Domnitz, director, as Recruiting Partners of the Year for their longstanding commitment to developing School of Management students through New York City site visits and networking events and on-campus engagements.

In addition, the Internships and Experiential Learning team honored partners throughout the community and around the country who provided outstanding real-world learning opportunities for School of Management students.

Named Outstanding Internship Partner, Bak USA, a Buffalo-based social enterprise that builds computers, has created challenging hands-on internships in several areas and sent representatives to campus to meet students and speak in classes.

The New Internship Partner award went to Encompass Agency, an insurance agency that recruited five students for internships in human resources, sales and marketing, and finance.

The Food Bank of Western New York, a longstanding experiential learning partner, was honored with the Nonprofit Internship Organization award for its constant willingness to provide high-quality internships in such areas as development, event coordination, finance and strategic planning.

“We feel fortunate to provide a variety of internship opportunities to School of Management students. While interns gain real workplace experience through our organization, we in return benefit greatly from all that these exceptional students have to offer,” says Marylou Borowiak, BS ’87, president and CEO of the Food Bank of WNY. “Our School of Management interns are always professional, hard-working and eager to learn. It is a sincere pleasure to work with these bright and talented future leaders.”

New this year, the Internship Spotlight award went to Reddy Bikeshare, a partnership of Independent Health and Shared Mobility in which users can rent bicycles throughout Buffalo. The initiative provided meaningful internships for undergraduates in data analysis and operations.

Finally, leaders and student interns from ProKarma, a global IT solutions company, and Dun & Bradstreet were honored with the Supervisor and Intern of the Year awards.

Jamie Hammond, documentation specialist at ProKarma, was recognized alongside her intern, Apoorva Kapoor, MBA ’17. Meanwhile, John Roddy, senior group leader, finance, accepted his award with Sphoorthi Bhuvaneswar, MBA ’17, who completed two internships at Dun & Bradstreet in global finance and data analytics.
