Ramaswamy Ramesh, professor and chair of the School of Management's Department of Management Science and Systems, was among five UB faculty members recognized by the UB Council on International Studies and Programs (CISP), which presented its 2010 Awards for Outstanding Contributions to International Education during its annual awards luncheon held on Dec. 8.

The other four recipients are Thomas W. Burkman, research professor, Department of History, and former director of the Asian Studies Program; Eugene D. Morse, professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, and associate director for UB’s New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences; John Stone, clinical associate professor, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, and director of the Center for International Rehabilitation Research Information and Exchange, School of Public Health and Health Professions; and Wow-Yu Bill Wu, associate professor, School of Nursing.

They were honored for exceptional contributions to UB’s international studies and programs, including study abroad, area studies, international research and outreach, services and support to international students and scholars and institutional affiliations overseas.

CISP established the award in 2004 and 14 UB faculty members and administrators have received it over the past four years.

The awards were presented on behalf of Provost Satish Tripathi by Lucinda Finley, vice provost for faculty affairs and professor, UB Law School. The event was hosted by David Engel, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor in the UB Law School and chair of CISP. Stephen C. Dunnett, vice provost for international education, served as master of ceremonies.

A distinctive feature of UB’s governance of international education, CISP is a consultative body composed of ex-officio members from the Office of the Vice Provost for International Education and faculty members from disciplines involved in international activities at the university. It serves as the primary advisory body to the provost on international education and reviews, supervises and develops plans for university-wide international initiatives.

The UB School of Management is recognized for its emphasis on real-world learning, community and economic impact, and the global perspective of its faculty, students and alumni. The school has been ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek, the Financial Times, Forbes, U.S. News & World Report and The Wall Street Journal for the quality of its programs and the return on investment it provides its graduates.
