Become a Mentor

Mentors are responsible for contacting assigned freshmen to provide a basis for support and serve as a source of information regarding involvement in university and School of Management activities.

A mentor serves as a referral person to appropriate offices in School of Management and appropriate campus-wide offices.

A mentor serves as a bridge to, but not a substitute for the School of Management Academic Programs Office. The mentor stays in contact with the School of Management Academic Programs Office regarding any concerns that may arise with a particular student or the Mentorship program.

Remember, as a mentor you can provide information from a perspective that no faculty or staff member has. From your own personal experience you can offer insight into the university and particularly in the School of Management that will prove invaluable to a freshman.

Commitment for a full academic year is required so that support is consistent throughout the students' first year.

A record of contact with assigned freshmen is to be kept and, at the conclusion of the year, letters of participation will be made available.

Mentor Qualifications

  • Must be an upper-level student in the School of Management in good academic, disciplinary and financial standing
  • Must be reliable and willing to contribute to another student's freshman experience and to the School of Management

Note: We have stopped accepting applicants for the 2009-2010 Mentorship Program, please check back in the Spring if you would like to apply for next year's program.
