MGB 607 Motivation and Leadership

This course will help students begin developing leadership skills. Various ideas about what leadership is, how it is practiced, and how it can be evaluated will be covered. Students will learn about the relevance of leadership to the work motivation of individuals, to the effectiveness of groups, and to overall performance of firms. Opportunities to assess and explore alternatives to their own leadership characteristics and styles will be provided.

MGB 625 Power and Influence 

This course will provide students with an understanding of the nature of power and political processes in complex organizations. The particular focus will be in understanding how power and influence can be developed and used to get things done when responsibilities exceed formal authority. Cases, critical incidents and experiential exercises will be used to consider various strategies and tactics. Various moral and ethical issues will also be explored.

MGG 636 Communication Skills

MGG 636 is designed to give students an understanding of what makes managerial communication different from other forms of communication, and to enhance one's abilities in this area. The sessions will be interactive a good deal of the time, and will include in-class activities on certain weeks. These activities are designed to address all three learning domains: cognitive, affective, and behavioral. Students will acquire knowledge (cognitive) of key areas in the communication process and basic principles. Students will also be encouraged to examine and perhaps alter attitudes (affective) while improving communication skills (behavioral). The following topics will be addressed in this course in two distinct areas. The first provides an emphasis on practical communication techniques and their applications. (Awareness, Active Listening, and Feedback (giving and receiving). The second examines several emotional intelligence elements and how they relate to communication on a variety of dimension (Organizational Climate, Civility and Conflict). Considerable focus will be placed on public speaking and presentation skills continuously throughout the semester.

MGH 633 Healthcare Economics

Provides the student with the ability to apply economic reasoning to health care markets. Topics include discussion of the organization of the hospital, payment systems, costs and charges, markets for physician services, cost-effective analysis, outcomes research and health care reform.

MGM 620: Integrated Marketing

This course will provide both a theoretical framework and applied methodologies for developing and executing integrated advertising, promotion, public relations, direct, trade and online marketing initiatives. Starting with an analysis of the firm's business objectives (volume/profit/share), the course will explore the analytic and planning processes and tools that are applicable in both consumer and B2B environments.
