The School of Management and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SoPPS) jointly offer a five-year program leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)/Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. The dual degree program reduces by one year the usual pattern of a four-year PharmD program and a two-year MBA program.

Each candidate must meet all degree requirements of each school, except for the reduction in total credit hours. Students wishing to pursue the dual degree program should provide separate applications and be admitted to SoPPS. Application to both schools may be simultaneous, or currently admitted students may opt for the dual degree program during the first professional year of their respective program. Admission will be limited to students who have demonstrated superior capabilities. Students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average after completion of the first professional pharmacy year to be officially considered for the program. Applications for the MBA program must be submitted online through the School of Management MBA admissions website. Information and personal advisement are available at the Graduate Programs Office in 203 Alfiero Center, North Campus.

A PharmD/MBA student must fulfill 6 APPE rotations for the PharmD program and 48 credits in the MBA program including a 3 hour MBA internship. To fulfill the curricular requirements of both schools the student must complete the following:

  1. Take one of the PharmD APPE electives (6 hours) to fulfill the MBA internship requirement (3 hours). To fulfill both requirements the student must pick a rotation that serves both purposes (e.g., HMO, Hospital administration etc). The student must inform the appropriate staff in the Pharmacy department and their MBA Advisor in the School of Management. It should be noted that the student must complete a 3 hour MBA elective course to fulfill the 48 credit hour requirement under this option.

  2. Take a 3 hour MBA internship. Student is required to pay the appropriate MBA tuition if this is a summer internship. Students still must fulfill 6 APPE rotations for PharmD completion.

The Pharmacy College Admissions Test (PCAT) is required for all applicants, except Early Assurance students (incoming freshmen who enter UB directly from high school as intended pharmacy majors). If you have taken the PCAT, you may submit the PCAT score report to fulfill the GMAT/GRE requirement. If you have not taken the PCAT, you must submit a GMAT or GRE score report.
