Background

Curran first worked in Cincinnati at Procter & Gamble for 3 years as a marketing assistant, sales representative and an assistant brand manager. He left P&G in 1982 to return to his native Western New York, where he joined Fisher-Price’s marketing organization. He advanced through several marketing positions of increasing responsibility, eventually serving as Director of Marketing for all Preschool lines, about 60 percent of the company.

In 1990, Curran moved to Little Tikes, a toy division of Rubbermaid located near Cleveland, Ohio, to serve as Vice President of Marketing. Later positions at Little Tikes included VP of North American Sales & Marketing and VP of Little Tikes Europe, living in Brussels, Belgium. Little Tikes revenues doubled from $300 million to $600 million during his tenure there.

In 1997, Curran returned to Fisher-Price as Senior VP of Research & Development, where he led a team of over 85 toy designers creating over 400 new toys annually. In 1999, he was named Senior VP of International Marketing, where he travelled to 20+ countries across the world to help drive Fisher-Price’s expansion outside the U.S.

In 2000, Curran moved to New York City as CEO General Manager for Fisher-Price Friends, a business group based on licensed characters from Sesame Street, Disney, Nickelodeon, Warner Brothers and DreamWorks. The F-P Friends team developed industry hit products for characters like Elmo, Dora the Explorer, Barney, Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, Thomas the Tank and Blues Clues. Revenues at the business unit grew from $300 million to $550 million during his tenure.

In 2005, Curran returned to East Aurora as CEO General Manager of the larger Fisher-Price “Core” business. In 2009, he was promoted to CEO General Manager of the entire Fisher-Price business, a $2.3 billion division of Mattel. After Fisher-Price set all-time records for worldwide profits in 2007, 2009 and 2010, he retired in 2011.
