This collaborative venture consists of two master's degrees: MS in the Management of Information Technology Services (MITS) from the State University of New York at Buffalo and MSc in Management Information Systems from Amrita University. This dual-degree program is uniquely designed to provide aspiring professionals with focused knowledge and skills so that they can grow into leadership positions. The two degrees have been jointly designed by the two universities in conjunction with several focus groups of HP managers who provided valuable inputs to curriculum development. The focus of the program is on the development of functional, technical and process skills needed for effective management of IT services organizations and soft skills such as communication, teamwork and resource management. The business triggers for this collaborative program are essentially threefold: enable top talent in the Indian IT services industry to grow into world-class managers, enable IT firms to retain such talent by providing significant career advancement through the program, and make them extremely attractive to the outside world. As a result, the MITS program enables a robust and effective development of human resources within the IT services sector contributing to both organizational development and individual growth. The MITS program was launched first in Bangalore and is now being extended to IT services professionals in Chennai as well. The 31-credit program is a specialized degree that is unique among Indian educational offerings. While several universities in India offer general management degrees, no other degree program is specifically focused on the management of IT services firms. Classes are taught on weekends by UB School of Management faculty in collaboration with the Amrita faculty. In addition to content related to IT services management, students will receive solid grounding in key functional areas of management, such as finance and accounting. They also will develop skills in leadership, communication and strategic thinking. For more information on the MITS program and to register, visit http://mites.amrita.edu.
