Using the School of Management
Scanner in Jacobs 210
To Scan - Double click on the HP DeskScan II icon
- Put
your picture face down on the scanner
- Choose the type of image
that most closely matches your image (ex. black & white drawing, color
photo, etc.). Note: If you don't choose this, the scanner will do
it automatically after it completes its preview scan.
- Click the
Preview button. A preview of your image will appear on the right side of
the window.
- From here you can zoom the picture if you want, or
manipulate it in other ways.
- When you are satisfied with the way
the image looks, click the Final button.
- The image will be saved
in a directory called C:\SCANNER and will be in TIFF format. Type in a file
name and click on the Save button.
- Repeat this process for each
item you have to scan.
- When you have finished scanning, exit the
DeskScan II program.
To convert from TIFF format to JPEG format - Double click
on the LViewPro icon. If you are presented with a license screen, click
Close.
- Click File/Open. In the Look In box you want to see C:\SCANNER.
If you do not see that directory, click on the down arrow button
at the end of the box, click on Scanner (C: ), and then double click on
the Scanner directory. You should now see the contents of that directory,
including the files you just created. Click on your file name, then click
the Open button.
- To save your image in JPEG format, click File/Save
As. Under Save as Type at the bottom of the screen, choose JPEG (this may
be the default). Click on Save.
- Repeat with all of your images.
To FTP images to your Unix account - Double click on the
FTP icon.
- In the User ID box, type your Unix username
- In
the Password box, type your Unix password.
- Click on OK.
- In
the left window you will see the directory of C:\SCANNER. In the right window
you'll see the directory of your Unix account.
- Click on the file
in the left window that you want to put in your Unix account, then click
on the right arrow. (Note: You can select multiple files by holding
down the Ctrl key as you click on file names, then click the right arrow
to send them.)
The files are now in your Unix account and can be incorporated into your
WWW homepage. If you want to copy them to a floppy disk, you can go to
one of the lab computers, or any computer on campus that has and FTP program
such as Rapid Filer. You cannot save to a floppy disk on the scanning
computer.
If you have access to the MGT file server (k: drive)
You can copy your image files from C:\SCANNER to the directory K:\USERS\SCANNER
from within File Manager. You can then go back to your office computer
and move the files from the K:\USERS\SCANNER directory to your own user
directory.
