Management Science and Systems

The PhD major in Management Science and Systems offers two tracks: Management Science and Management Systems.
The Management Science track emphasizes the use of mathematical, statistical and economic techniques to model complex management and management-related problems.
The Management Systems track emphasizes the use of systems analysis techniques, quantitative techniques, analytical and simulation modeling, and theory building, statistical analysis and other analytical methods in the structuring and resolution of management problems.

Work With Leading Researchers
Our Management Science and Systems (MSS) faculty members are committed scholars who are internationally known for their research achievements. They are actively engaged with their students, often working jointly with them on various research projects. In addition:
- Our management information systems group was ranked 22nd in the world for research productivity; our production operations management group was ranked 15th
- Our faculty recently held a conference on virtual enterprises and mobile technologies that attracted academic scholars and industry participants from around the world
- Our faculty are globally connected, conducting many active research programs in North America, Europe and Asia
- Our faculty have received funding from the National Science Foundation, Air Force Research labs, Department of Defense and several others
- Some of our faculty have launched a premier information systems journal called Information Systems Frontiers: A Journal of Research and Innovation. The editorial board of this journal is comprised of key researchers (Nobel laureates and National Medal of Technology winners) as well as captains of industry (CEOs and CIOs of Fortune 500 IT organizations)
The Academy of Management Journal and Journal of Operations Management rank our faculty as among the most productive nationwide in the creation of real-world research. A small sampling of faculty research interests in MSS includes:
