Leadership PACE

It’s no accident that The Wall Street Journal has ranked MBA graduates from the UB School of Management in the top 10, worldwide, for their team skills and leadership potential.

Our MBAs work to improve their personal and professional competencies throughout their time in the School of Management through a variety of programs both in and out of the classroom. One of the most impactful of those programs is Leadership PACE (Personal Achievement through Competency Evaluation).

This semester-long elective is based on the theory that success in today’s business world depends not only on our training and expertise, but on how well we handle ourselves and others and our ability to learn and adapt to new and changing situations.

Leadership PACE is designed to help students identify personal limitations and establish a development plan to overcome them. Admission into the course is selective and students must undergo an application and interview process. View the most recent syllabus [PDF] for more information.

What MBA students have said about Leadership PACE:

“As a result of this class, I am prepared to be a better manager. I understand my strengths and weaknesses and have the tools I need for self-improvement. Through the communications segment and team activities, I have increased my self-confidence.”

Wendy Kruse, MBA

“This course has taught me about myself and how others perceive me. These insights will help me understand how I can better motivate others to achieve superior results. Its greatest value has come from the feedback provided both from the in-class exercises and the evaluation tools that were used. I have found that these opportunities for self-discovery are very rare and become almost non-existent as we get older.”

Christopher Adams, MBA

“The guest speakers were really incredible. Highly respected in their fields, they stressed the importance in the workplace of so many of the core competencies that we were working on: communication, cultural sensitivity, negotiation skills and more. They proved that in the corporate world, these are the skills that make outstanding leaders.”

Vivek Krishnan, MBA
