Global Services and Supply Management Concentration

Objective

To train managers for the 21st century business context involving global services, manufacturing enterprises and globally dispersed supply chains.

Rationale

Globalization and global redistribution of IT-enabled manufacturing supply chains and service business processes are occurring at an increasing pace due to strategic reasons.
IT is now an integral part of, and deeply embedded in, manufacturing supply chains and service business processes which cannot function without globally distributed information systems.
To be successful in this domain, it is critical to acquire not only knowledge pertaining to global supply chain management but also knowledge of how globally distributed information systems enable effective management of cross-border services and manufacturing networks.
According to the Wall Street Journal (3/11/08), “supply-chain managers must be able to handle increasingly complex and critical technology.”
The GSSM option is uniquely designed to meet the educational needs in this emerging strategic area. It also leverages the School of Management’s long experience and focus in international education.
