Research in Multi-Level Issues (RMLI) is an annual series to be published by JAI Press beginning in 2002.  The purpose of these annual volumes is to present timely, scholarly work on multiple levels of analysis, especially multi-level theory, research, and methods.  The focus is on "critical essays" (i.e., critical literature reviews and new model development), purely theoretical work, significant empirical studies, methodological developments, analytical techniques, and philosophical treatments in the field of multi-level studies.  The substantive area of focus may be a single discipline or topic, or span a range of disciplines or topics.  Some relevant areas include, but are not limited to, organizational behavior, human resources management, organization theory, business policy and strategy, psychology, sociology, education, and political science as well as leadership, decision-making, communication and information processing, and stress.  The key requirements are that the work be "multi-level" in nature and of the highest scholarly quality.

The editors seek manuscripts (in the 50-100 page range) on multi-level issues that would appeal to a broad interdisciplinary audience and lend themselves to two-to-four "constructive commentaries" (in the 10-20 page range each) from known relevant experts.  The original manuscript, commentaries, and a "response/rebuttal" (in the 10-20 page range) from the original author(s) will be published as a set in a volume of RMLI along with several other sets of manuscripts.  The goals here are to provide high-quality scholarly work and to foster a constructive scientific debate for the efficient advancement of knowledge.  As such, the target audience for RMLI is serious established scholars in multi-level issues, scholars and researchers new to the field of multi-level studies, and doctoral students in the various disciplines where multi-level issues are being pursued.
