The DiBerardino Accounting Resource Center

The DiBerardino Accounting Resource Center opened in fall 2007. The 742-square-foot facility has study and meeting areas, computers and a printer, and is staffed by graduate assistants and student club leaders. The center, open to exclusively to accounting majors, provides space for students to study, work on group projects, hold meetings and conduct research. It is also used as a tutoring location by the UB Accounting Association and Beta Alpha Psi.

Louis A. DiBerardino, BS ‘80

A self-described “Buffalo kid,” Lou DiBerardino is currently North Central Tax Managing Partner for Ernst & Young. While his tax practice has taken him all over the world, in many ways, his heart has remained here. “UB and the School of Management have meant a lot to me over the years. Growing up in Buffalo, I knew UB was a great school and I was proud to come here. The Accounting program wasn’t easy to get into, and those of us who got in knew that if we worked hard, our UB education would help us land good jobs and pass the CPA exam.”

As his career progressed, DiBerardino’s UB education continued to serve him well. A graduate of the undergraduate accounting program, he observed that “even when my peers had advanced degrees or were from Ivy League schools, I repeatedly saw that the UB experience stacked up well.”

Just as DiBerardino has been a leader in his professional life, his influence has helped advance the Accounting and Law Department and School of Management. He has been a financial supporter since the year he graduated, rarely missing a year. It was his initial gift that prompted other E&Y partners to collaborate to name the Ernst & Young Connected Classroom.

DiBerardino has served on the School of Management Alumni Association Board, the Buffalo and NYC-based Accounting Advisory Councils, and the School of Management Dean’s Advisory Council. He has been a popular class speaker and recruiter. He never stops thinking about how he can help UB and the School of Management command the respect and pride a UB education warrants.

“As I became able to consider a major gift, I had no doubt it would be a good investment. Unlike a lot of places, UB genuinely appreciates the involvement and commitment of its alumni. You know your efforts are making a difference, and everyone from the students to the faculty to the administrators will tell you so!”

“My hope is that this resource center will contribute to the progress of present and future UB accounting students, who themselves will prosper and give back to the School of Management in the same spirit.
