Honoring our grads for excellence, service and leadership

Congratulations to the following outstanding accounting graduates, who were recognized before or during the UB School of Management’s virtual commencement ceremony in May.

  • Carly Gugino, the Master of Science Student Achievement Award, and Milad Ghanatios, the Undergraduate Student Achievement Award, presented to an MS and undergraduate student, respectively, who has demonstrated scholastic excellence and rendered outstanding extracurricular service to the school and university.
  • Gugino also received the Federation of Schools of Accountancy (FSA) Outstanding Student Award, presented to a student in the fifth year of a 150-hour post-baccalaureate program at an FSA member school. The award is based on outstanding academic performance and service.
  • Lauren Aldrich, the Eddy Lin Memorial Award, presented to a graduating student focusing on a career with a mid-size public accounting firm, who has exhibited scholastic excellence and a passion for learning, actively mentored others and has a caring and fun attitude.
  • Theresa Hill and Lauren Rivera, the UB Accounting Association Michael S. Dockery Memorial Senior Awards, presented to senior accounting students who have contributed in a superior way to the Institute of Internal Auditors, the accounting profession, fellow students and the school.
  • Matthew Johnson, the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA) John T. Kennedy Memorial Award, and Quinn Pham and Kelli West, the NYSSCPA Award of Honor, all in recognition of scholastic excellence.
  • Pham also received the Lisa Friedman Memorial Award, presented to a female graduating senior majoring in accounting who is highly regarded by her peers for her integrity and potential contributions to the profession.
  • Scott MacEntee, the PwC Emerging Leader Award. Sponsored by PwC, the award recognizes an emerging student leader in the Zeta Theta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi—a role model who positively influences their peers through demonstrating inclusive and collaborative thinking, a positive attitude, and a drive for professional and personal development. 
  • Michael Poturalski, the Tax Executives Institute Inc. Award, presented to a high-achieving MS student on the tax track who plans to stay in Western New York.
