Supervisor's Role
Supervisor's Role
A quality on-site Supervisor functions on three levels:
Mentor
- Has designed and will support an internship that is non-clerical in nature
- Embraces the supervisor role as coach, teacher and guide
- Is available to the student intern
- Understands the internship may be the student’s first professional experience
Manager
- Has planned proper on-boarding (work space, orientation/training, introductions)
- Advises intern on corporate culture and behavioral expectations
- Provides consistent feedback on performance
- Conducts an exit interview and completes our evaluation form at end of internship
Strategist
- Shares pertinent information to enable intern's success
- Includes intern in professional development and networking opportunities
- Serves as a professional reference as appropriate
- Alters intern's schedule during high stress periods (exams, presentations) if necessary
