Supervisor's Role

A quality on-site Supervisor functions on three levels:

Mentor

  • Has designed and will support an internship that is non-clerical in nature
  • Embraces the supervisor role as coach, teacher and guide
  • Is available to the student intern
  • Understands the internship may be the student’s first professional experience

Manager

  • Has planned proper on-boarding (work space, orientation/training, introductions)
  • Advises intern on corporate culture and behavioral expectations
  • Provides consistent feedback on performance
  • Conducts an exit interview and completes our evaluation form at end of internship

Strategist

  • Shares pertinent information to enable intern's success
  • Includes intern in professional development and networking opportunities
  • Serves as a professional reference as appropriate
  • Alters intern's schedule during high stress periods (exams, presentations) if necessary
