BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo School of Management will celebrate the opening of the Undergraduate Learning and Community Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

What: The new center will be a destination for more than 2,900 undergraduates in the school to connect with their peers and develop skills for lifelong success. The state-of-the-art facility includes a community space, classrooms, tutoring offices and a glass-walled breakout room for workshops and student club meetings.

When: Noon on Sept. 30.

Where: Jacobs Management Center on UB’s North Campus.

Who: Satish K. Tripathi, UB president, and Paul E. Tesluk, interim dean of the School of Management, will speak and be available for interviews.

Connie Hanel, the center’s manager, will lead media around the center and showcase its state-of-the-art features and spaces.

Why it’s important: The center will be the academic home for School of Management undergraduates, with a network of resources to help them thrive at UB and beyond.

Named for the center’s lead donors, the Frank and Marilyn Clement Undergraduate Community Hub will provide students with a colorful, inviting place to meet, study and work on group projects.

In the Active Learning Hub, center-certified tutors will lead one-on-one and group tutoring sessions and study groups for eight undergraduate courses and other subjects, including English as a second language (ESL). Other workshops will teach such topics as study skills and personal branding.

The facility, which also includes three classrooms, was made possible by a $500,000 lead gift from Frank, BS ’66, and Marilyn Clement, with matching funding from the UB Provost’s Office and an additional anonymous contribution.

The UB School of Management is recognized for its emphasis on real-world learning, community and economic impact, and the global perspective of its faculty, students and alumni. The school also has been ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek, the Financial Times, Forbes and U.S. News & World Report for the quality of its programs and the return on investment it provides its graduates.
