About Jacobs Management Center

The heart of our academics…

The Jacobs Management Center serves as the primary academic and professional building for the School of Management. Designed in the early 1980s, the 81,071-square-foot building is located on UB’s North (Amherst) Campus and boasts three tiered classrooms, several computer and specialty labs, administrative and academic offices and five conference rooms. The Jacobs Center and the adjoining Alfiero Center create a destination for management students to come for classes and stay for individual work, team meetings, career planning, professional development, research, activities and contact with professors and staff.

Jacobs Management Center History

The Jacobs Management Center bears the Jacobs family name, in honor of a $1 million gift provided to the School in 1983. The building honors the late Louis Jacobs and his wife, the late Genevieve Bibby Jacobs as well as their three sons Jeremy, Max and the late Lawrence D. Jacobs. The center was officially opened in February of 1985 and replaced Crosby Hall on the South Campus as the School of Management’s home.

The Jacobs Management Center has undergone a number of changes since 1985 to adapt with the evolving operating and academic environment. The growth of many School of Management programs, such as our international and executive MBA programs, has filled what was once excess capacity in the building. In addition, the facility has evolved to accommodate the technological developments of the last few decades. The original mainframe system in the Jacobs computer lab has given way to microcomputers and, more recently, wired classrooms have given way to free wireless access throughout the building.

This gradual metamorphosis has allowed the Jacobs Management Center to offer the latest in technological resources and administrative services to management students. Going forward, the Jacobs Management Center will continue to offer the latest technology (including enhanced digital access to support our overseas programs) and amenities for the advancement of learning.
